Filming at Karekare is a controversial use of the place which stirs up a lot of local response. The KKRRT is working with officials so we can all be better informed about just what is and isn't allowed. Also getting the fees collected back into the community.
how you can help: stay informed! all crews with permits will gladly show you their documents.. If some filming is going on outside the schedule posted below, take details (names, phones, car registration numbers) and either ring or email the following: ARC ph 303 1530 or Enterprise Waitakere ph 837 1855

planned filming permitted by ARC/WCC
No permits are currently issued.

filming protocol at Karekare
Filming permits are controlled by 2 different regulatory bodies depending on where the filming is taking place. WCC through Enterprise Waitakere controls and permits any filming that uses the roads. The city has a policy of not charging anyone for this permission. ARC does the same with the public lands (i.e. carpark, beach, glade, waterfall, etc.). ARC does charge for the use of the land, fees in theory go into Western Parks budget (which covers the whole Waitakere Ranges). Under this protocol an informal arrangement exists where funds from the permits are passed to KKRRT. (Permission on private property, of course, is over to the landowners).
The community has a contact person who receives notices from them about filming dates. The community contact double checks that indeed this filming does happen within the parameters of the permit. If there is any filming without a permit, the community contact alerts ARC/Enterprise Waitakere. Information about permits goes into mailboxes but also onto this website. Residents are asked to help monitor this activity and report any filming that happens outside of these times.
