Some of the projects we are currently running, are below. Email landcare on landcare@karekare.org.nz for more information on any of these:

  • The regular monthly project days are usually on the second Sunday of the month. For dates and more information contact Caroline 09 812 8636 or Julia 09 812 8636.
    • 30th March 2003- Extra Landcare day whilst the weed bin is here to target Pampas again.
    • 13th April 2003 - Waterfall planting and clearing up near waterfall track entrance.
    • 11th May 2003 - Peaplant attack on seedlings below cave.
    • 8th June 2003 - Memorial Trees, placing underfelt and weeding.
    • 13th July 2003 - Wandering Jew in the Pohutakawa Glade area.
    • 10th August 2003- Planting near waterfall track entrance.
  • A waterfall restoration project, running in co-operation with ARC, for planting dates and more information contact Sherryn on 09 812 8801.
  • The La Trobe Forest Restoration project which is funded with a grant from the Royal Society and is specifically monitoring the effects on the local vegetation and birdlife, with the view of creating a mainland island on an area of 200 hectares after controlling many of the animal pests. Please contact Peter King on 09 812 8064, if you would like more information.
  • The second pest management project is called the Lone Kauri Forest Restoration Group, which has laid out over 100 bait stations, has several rat trap lines and has caught over 22 stoats over last summer season.   • An eco-sourced seed collecting project and local native nursery is being developed. Ring Julia Moore on 09 812 8636
